Gateway Greening Announces Installation of Blades Community Garden

St. Louis (1 Dec 2016) –Blades Community Garden in St. Louis, MO. was installed in 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. 10 raised beds were installed and filled with soil. The award also included: 1 garden sign, 1 toolshed, and 1 garden scale.

Blades Community Garden has 10 gardeners from the community and as a group, the garden will be able to grow 400 lbs of produce annually, on average. Produce will be used by the gardeners.

For 30 years, Gateway Greening has educated and empowered individuals to strengthen their communities through gardening and urban agriculture. Gateway Greening’s Garden Program receives many requests to start or expand community gardens in St. Louis. Projects are selected based on a number of factors including: need, the quality of the garden space, the level of community support, and the thoroughness of the plan for using the garden space. Awarded sites are typically supported with seeds/plants, garden tools, materials (hardscape and landscape), and guidance.

Gateway Greening Announces Installation of Bayless Elementary School Garden

St. Louis (1 Dec 2016) – Bayless Elementary School Garden in St. Louis, MO. was installed on 30 Sept 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Eleven raised beds were installed and filled with soil. The garden also received 4 picnic tables, 1 garden sign, 1 garden scale, two 16’ cattle panels and eight 7’ T-Posts.

Bayless Elementary School Garden has 53 gardeners from the community and with the students, the garden will be able to grow 320 lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce will be used by the gardeners.

St. Louis (1 Dec 2016) –Patrick Henry Downtown Academy School Garden in St. Louis, MO. was expanded on 12 Oct 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. The garden received: 1 garden scale, 1 garden sign, 200’ of hose, 2 sprinklers, 5 shovels, 4 garden hoes, 2 digging forks, and 2 wheelbarrows.

Patrick Henry Downtown Academy School Garden has 4 adult gardeners from the community and with the students, the garden will be able to grow 400 lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce is informally distributed throughout the community.

Gateway Greening Announces Expansion of McCluer North School & Community Garden

St. Louis (1 Dec 2016) –McCluer North School & Community Garden in Florissant, MO. was expanded on 13 Oct 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Two raised beds were installed and filled with soil. One set of hand tools and two 100’ hoses were also awarded.

McCluer North School & Community Garden has 12 gardeners from the community and as a group, the garden will be able to grow 440 lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce will be used by the gardeners and informally distributed throughout the community.

Gateway Greening’s Garden Program receives many requests to start or expand community gardens in St. Louis. St. Louis (22 Nov 2016) –The Waldorf School Garden in Webster Groves, MO was expanded in Spring of 20106 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Awarded items include: one 3-bin compost system , 2 cubic yards of soil, 1 garden sign, and 1 wheelbarrow.

The Waldorf School Garden has 12 gardeners from the community and with the students of the Waldorf School of St. Louis students, the garden will be able to grow 900lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce will be used by the gardeners and informally given away to the local community.

Gateway Greening’s Garden Program receives many requests to start or expand community gardens in St. Louis. The garden received 3 wooden picnic tables, 2 wooden benches, 1 3-bin compost system, 1 garden sign, 4 cubic yards of soil, 2 100’ hoses, and 1 sprinkler.

Shaw VPA Elementary School Garden has 14 gardeners from the community and with the students of Shaw VPA Elementary, the garden will be able to grow 250lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce is used by the gardeners and informally given away in the local community.

Gateway Greening Announces Expansion of Sun Patch School Garden

St. Louis (22 Nov 2016) –Sun Patch School Garden in St. Louis, MO was expanded in Spring of 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. 5 raised beds were installed and filled with soil. Compost was also awarded.

Sun Patch School Garden has 17 adult gardeners and is maintained by the gardeners, students of Adams Elementary School, and by members of the Adams Park Boys and Girls Club during the summer. With their combined efforts, the garden will be able to grow 400lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce will be used by the gardeners and informally given away to the local community.

St. Louis (1 Dec 2016) – International Welcome School Garden at the Nahed Chapman New American Preparatory Academy in St. Louis, MO. was expanded on 19 Oct 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Two raised beds were installed and filled with soil. Additional materials awarded included: 2 picnic tables, 2 wooden benches, one 3-bin compost system with signage, 2 shovels, 2 hard rakes, 1 wheelbarrow, 1 garden scale, and 1 garden sign.

International Welcome School Garden at the Nahed Chapman New American Preparatory Academy has 3 adult gardeners from the community and with the students, the garden will be able to grow 220 lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce will be informally distributed throughout the community.

Gateway Greening Announces Expansion of the Emerson Friends and Family Community Garden in Ferguson, MO

St. Louis (23 Nov 2016) –The Emerson Friends and Family Youth Garden in Ferguson, MO was expanded on 5 Oct 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Four raised beds were installed and filled with soil. The award also included 1 picnic table, 1 wooden bench, 1 toolshet, 2 handtool sets, 2 shovels, 2 hard rakes, 2 garden hoes, 2 digging forks, 1 wheelbarrow, and 1 watering hose.

The Emerson Friends & Family Youth Garden will be able to grow 100 lbs of produce annually, on average. All produce will be informally distributed throughout the local community.

Gateway Greening has really set us up to have an effective garden to be a better resource for the North County Community. St. Louis 23 Nov 2016 –Columbia CEC Elementary School Garden in St. Louis, MO was expanded on 16 Nov 2016 as a result of an award from Gateway Greening. Items received included: One 3-bin composter, 1 compost bin sign, 1 garden scale, 12 hand tool sets, 3 shovels, 2 garden hoes, 2 hard rakes, 2 digging forks, 1 sprinkler, 1 wheelbarrow, and 1 watering hose.

Columbia CEC Elementary School Garden has 5 adult gardeners from the community and with the student of Columbia Elementary School, the garden will be able to grow 650 lbs of produce annually, on average. The produce is sold locally, used by the gardeners, and informally distributed to the local community.
